Longest Day of the Year
Have you heard? June 20, 2012 is officially the longest day of the year.
If you’re like me, it always feels like there just isn’t enough time in the day to do everything you need to do, let alone the things that are in the “want” column.
So maybe this is my chance.
Many years ago, I decided to better myself by learning another language. I figured Spanish is the language of my people, so why not start there?
But something always seemed to come up, and I never managed to advance farther than ordering dinner or a bee….make that “uno mas cerveza, senor” (sorry, couldn’t figure out how to type the squiggly thingy over the ‘n’).
Or how about exercising more? Oops, ran out of time. Besides, can’t go jogging, might spill my cerveza.
Fixing that loose door on the cabinet? Changing the burned out bulb in the shed?
Just not enough hours in the day.
So here we are, facing the longest day of the year.
What should I put first on my list?
Well, according to timeanddate.com, the days are definitely getting longer, and of course, if it’s on the web it has to be true, right?
April 20 of this year saw a 5:51 a.m. sunrise and a 7:03 p.m. sunset. That’s a measly 13 hours, 11 minutes, and 54 second’s of sunlight. Hardly worth getting out of bed. As a matter of fact, I’ll have to check my calendar, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t.
Jump forward to May 20, 2012- 5:24 a.m. sunrise and 14 hours, one minute, and 14 seconds later the sun set at 7:26 p.m.
What’s in store for today?
According to the web folks, sunrise was at 5:19 a.m. I’ll have to take their word for it.
Sunset will be at 7:41 p.m.
Hold on-that’s only a 21 minute difference. What could I possibly get done in such a short period of time? It will take me longer than that just to find my toolbox, especially since it’s in the shed and it’s really dark in there.
Maybe I’ll just head over to Arturo’s and practice my Spanish.
